Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is extremely common and the latest statistics show that 80% of all adults will experience lower back pain during their lifetime.

Most lower back pain is not down to any serious cause and the majority will feel better after a day or two so it’s often best to wait it out if the pain is mild. But if there is any severe, persistent or recurrent pain you should be assessed by one of LWF’s specialist MSK Physiotherapists.

But first if you have any of the below complaints we suggest it may be best to you get the imminent advice of a Physician before attending LWF Physiotherapy:

  • Any recent violent or high speed Trauma
  • History of malignant tumour
  • If you are struggling to put weight through your leg
  • If you are tripping or expereince significant weakness in your legs (NB: initally it can often feel like you legs are quite weak when you are in a lot of pain – so see how this is when you are in a slightly more comfortable position)
  • If you have severe unremitting pain at night
  • If you have a lack of bowel or bladder control
  • Have been unable to urinate for several hours despite trying
  • Numbness or ‘pins and needles’ in between you legs
  • If you are unwell or have a fever in addition to your pain

Most Lower back pain is non specific which means that it is caused by a mix of muscle pain and joint limitation along with some other minor structural complaints which is impossible to say exacatyl where is is coming from so we name it ‘non specific low back pain’. Disc pain is rare and nerve impingment or ‘trapped nerves in your back’ are even rarer although buttock and leg pain from the previous non specific causes is quite common and this is known as referred pain. But Lower Back Pain is always debilitating and restrictive and an episode of pain here can be worrying for anyone due the often sudden and severe nature of it’s onset. As with all pain and injuries it is always best to seek assessment of an expert and LWF MSK Physiotherapists are a trusted partner in your care to firstly diagnose, then quickly help you Recover from your pain. Once you are Feeling Better LWF’s specialist MSK physiotherapists will ensure you fully Resolve your complaint and Be Better than ever whilst minimising the risk of future recurrence.
